Application Hotkeys

The following hotkeys helps you operate the LEX application in a fast, convenient way:

F1 Opens the online help manual.

F2 If you are in the treeview panel or the object list in the LEX main window, then you can rename the currently selected object with this. This is only possible if not more than one single object is focused.

If you are in the attribute list in the LEX main window, or in an attribute window or a compare window, then you can quick-edit the currently selected attribute with this. Only possible if just one single attribute line is selected.

F5 If you are in the treeview panel, this reloads the directory tree content of the currently selected node, it's parent node and all it's child nodes. It DOES NOT refresh the complete tree in the treeview panel, because this can be very time consuming in large environments. For more information, read the content of the manual topic Reloading the Tree Structure.

In all other object and attribute lists, this hotkey refreshes the entire list from the LDAP server.

ENTER If there is a normal object selected in the treeview panel or the object list, then the attribute window is opened for this object. When you selected more than one object in the object list, then you can edit the attributes of all these objects concurrently. For more information, read the content of the manual topic Editing Multiple Objects.

If there is a container object selected in the treeview panel or the object list, then you change into the regarding container, LEX shows then the containing objects and container attributes. You want to see the attribute window for such an object: Press ALT-ENTER instead.

If you are in an attribute window or in the object compare dialog, then the appropriate attribute value editor is opened.

ALT-ENTER The attribute window is opened for this object. Only valid if you are currently in the treeview panel or the object list in the LEX main window.

SPACE If you are in the attribute list in the LEX main window, or in an attribute window or a compare window, then this key changes the display of multi valued attributes. It toggles between the condensed output and the multi-row output for the regarding attribute.

This hotkey is only working if you select just one single row in the list and if this row belongs to an multi valued attribute.

For more information, read the content of the manual topic Displaying Multivalued Attributes.

INSERT If you are in the treeview panel or the object list, a new object is created with this. The Create new object dialog is opened.

In an attribute list, you can create a new attribute with this.

DELETE If you are in the treeview panel or the object list, all currently selected objects are deleted from the directory with this. Be aware that LEX cannot undo this step!

In an attribute list, you can remove an entire attribute or just the selected array member of an multi valued attribute with this. Be aware that LEX cannot undo this step!

PLUS Adds a new array member to an multi valued attribute. This is only accessible when you are in an attribute list and if the currently selected attribute is multi valued.

MINUS Removes an array member to an multi valued attribute. This is only accessible when you are in an attribute list and if the currently selected attribute is multi valued.

BACK This changes the LEX main window focus to the parent container.

CTRL-A Selects all the elements in the current list / all the data in the current editor.

CTRL-C Copies the currently selected value into the clipboard. If you are in an attribute list (in the LEX main window attribute list, the attribute window or a compare window) then the complete attribute information is copied into a special LEX clipboard so that you can paste the entire attribute into another object.

CTRL-D IF you are in an attribute list, then the attribute name (not the value) is copied into the clipboard.

CTRL-E Opens the currently selected object (from the LEX treeview panel or the object list) in a new LEX main window.

CTRL-F Opens the search dialog. This is only possible if the currently focused object in the LEX main window is am container object. A detailed description on LDAP search operations can be found in the manual at the topic Searching the Directory.

CTRL-I Opens the Filter Factory. A detailed description about LDAP filters can be found in the manual at the topic Building LDAP Filters.

CTRL-N Launches an additional LEX main window, if you are currently connected to an LDAP-Server, the new window inherits this connection.

CTRL-O Opens the LDAP Connections dialog where you can initiate a new server connection. A detailed description on LDAP connection operations can be found in the manual at the topic Connecting to LDAP Servers.

CTRL-S Saves the current connection settings into a connection profile. If you currently use a connection profile, you can overwrite its settings. If not, then you can create a new one.

CTRL-V Pastes a value from the clipboard into the current focused selection. If you are currently in any text edit field or in the hex attribute editor, then the clipboard is just pasted into the editor content.

If you are in the attribute list in the LEX main window, or in an attribute window or a compare window, then you paste the clipboard value just into the currently selected attribute. You are asked before if the (maybe existing) old value is to be replaced or if the clipboard value is to be merged with it. This is only possible if you selected only one single attribute!

If you are in the LEX main window object list, and you have copied a complete attribute into the clipboard before, then you can paste the complete attribute into another object. You are asked before if the (maybe existing) old value is to be replaced or if the clipboard value is to be merged with it. This is possible even if you select more than one object in the list!
